Whitney's portfolio I

All of us labeled appropriately by the letter to the right of us, except P on the left of Papa

Mommy, W shopping with E in the shopping cart

Papa and T

W painted this with water colors.  She has pretty good control of water color

Each of us thinking of something.  The middle one is W thinking about her two brothers, drawn in the circle

us at the beach.

One of W's mini pictures.  She cuts out these pieces of paper herself

The boys.  Papa and T are wearing shorts

The figure on the top is me with W in my stomach and how W is "popping out of mommy's tummy, then a baby, then growing bigger and bigger into a big kid
T's exhaust pipes.  One is the gas going in the other is the gas going out

Water color T and W.  W likes yellow hair because it is beautiful

T and W.  Check out those purple eyelashes

The entire family

Mommy with her polka dot dress on, T in shorts and "mommy's little tiny buggy!"  My nickname for W is buggy

Exhaust pipes. One is going in and the other is out

Watercolor watermelon.  W wanted the paints out because she felt like drawing a watermelon after her watermelon snack

all done with sharpies. I took all three to the bank and it was going to take longer than the teller thought it was.  She brought sharpies over for them to draw with.  She doesn't have any children.  Her desk has faint reminders of my children's pics

a Papa train.  She wrote that stuff in herself

cookies with sprinkles waiting in the cookie dish she made with playdough

More yellow hair on W and a yellow polka dot dress

the boys. On this day, W drew the clothes they were wearing that day.  J was wearing a brown shirt and T had a striped shirt on

A lady bug with six legs, W in her polka dot dress and me with my polka dot dress.  Oh yeah.  Those horizontal lines coming off my legs are "the hair that you forgot to take off"  See.  It amazes me the details that go into these pics

W's first time writing on her own To: Mommy.  She asked how to spell it, but wrote the letters herself

The boys with attention to their smiles and teeth drawn in

T's version of Mommy

T's rendition of Papa.  W pointed out he has no belly

T has a big belly because he is full in this picture
T and his friends when they are 8 years old.  T is the far left when upside down.  Tai is in the middle and the other guy, W doesn't know his name.  Everyone has the appropriate colored hair and eyes

The family, minus E

W with her friends when they are 8

Me with one of the YW

W loves to draw pictures with me as part of her mommy time, but she also draws pictures whenever I am doing meal prep.  I figured it out one day that she probably spends about 2 hours total each day practicing drawing.

Maniac baby

I don't think I blog as much about E as I did about W and T when they were his same age.  I'm sure my sister would agree and feel much empathy for E.  So here is a good start on the stuff he does.

He climbs up AND down stairs.  The up part is easy and he has been doing that for a good three months, but he decided to learn to go down stairs, too.  He is actually pretty safe doing it.  It still scares me because I'm certain he hasn't got it and will totally fall, so I'm always close to him, but so far, no falling even with spotting.

He likes to throw stuff behind his head.  This makes me laugh.  I don't remember the other two doing it.  When we were at the beach, he was throwing rocks and shells behind his head at a rapid pace, so much so, when I picked him up, his shirt had a few large rocks in them.  He lifts stuff up and bends his arm so he looks like he is about to put something down the back of his shirt and drops it.  Hard to describe how funny it looks.  But I don't laugh when he does it with his food.

He loves food.  Not baby food.  Real food.  I can't believe this kid and the food he eats.  He stopped nursing two months ago.  I thought he didn't like bottles and hadn't quite grasped a sippy cup, but I have discovered this week that it is because formula is the most disgusting stuff.  It must taste how it smells.  He was only drinking enough to not get dehydrated.  But this week, I could finally give him cow milk.  He chugged a sippy cup and a half in one meal.  No problems with the sippy cup, just problems with what is in it.

He loves to throw food off his tray if he doesn't like how it is served, if he is full or just plain doesn't like it.  Here are some examples.  He throws bread off the side, one piece at a time, if it is broken into bite sized pieces.  But he will eat the bread if it is in long slices.  His skill he likes to practice is to bite bread pieces off.  He likes large sized pieces of food.  This makes his mother nervous as she mentally reviews the Heimlech maneuver for babies at each meal for fear he is going to choke, but no.  He doesn't choke.  But he chews in a funny manner. "like an old man" states his father as he bites into a one inch cube of watermelon and mashes it with his gums.  Silly.  He doesn't have chewing teeth, but this doesn't prevent his practicing.  Sigh.  Have I mentioned I have this one grey hair now?

He is certain that anything off the table is for eating and anything fed separate to him must be nasty baby food.  So if I want him to eat anything that we are not eating, then i have to feed him before we set the table.  And, he can't see watermelon, peaches or manderins unless he is done eating all the other stuff because once he sees it, all he wants is that.  Last night he had corn cut off the cob, little bits of ribs off Papa's plate, collard greens cooked and bread.  He made these faces at  the bits of meat.  The spice of the BBQ sauce is too much for him, but he eats it anyway.  That is so maniac, as T would say!  It is inherited, though.  I remember my Auntie Jill saying Taylor didn't like baby food either.  Now I know what she means.

I think E is fairly certain he is the same size as his siblings and therefore can do the same stuff as them.  He loves to crawl in the rhody bush.  The other day he tried balancing on the same logs as W.  He crawled into the ocean water to follow T.  Good grief.  That water is cold!  Can't you see your mama doesn't want to go in!!??

T told someone that T likes to eat cheerioes, bread, sticks, pinecones and rocks.  It is true.  He puts all those things in his mouth.

W loves to cheer him up and make him laugh by playing peekaboo and blowing dandelion seeds into his face.

T loves to go get his portable fuzzy (pronounced fortable fuzzy by T)

E loves to pick flowers and rip them to shreds.

He knows the concept of facetime.  He puts his face to the phone and smiles when he hears Grandma's voice, even if we are just on the phone, not doing facetime.

T invented Ian the clam with the bins.  Pretty creative.  Then Ian gave me "deliveries" for me to taste.  Chalk shaped into animals that were "cookies" for me.  They tasted delicious.

We went to the saltwater as a family.  We had a fabulous time feeling warm sun and air.  T and Papa floated wood pieces in the water and called them boats.  When they would throw them too far in, they would throw rocks at them to get them to come closer.  Or wade in to get them back out.  W was pretty proud of herself saving one of these wooden boats with her foot.

W found a stick covered in barnacles.  She was swinging it around in play and accidently smacked T in the nose.  Really well.  The barnacles scratched his face and he got a bloody nose that filled two Kleenexes in a few minutes.  He screamed pretty loud in pain, but as soon as the pain was over he told me "It will heal.  W is still a kind girl"  He said that over and over to me with such forgiveness and compassion.
Both of them playing dress up.  I had to laugh that T went and put on his church shoes to play with his sister.  He also asked if he could go to the store as above, just take his skirt off when he went in the store.  Ok...

E practicing stairs.  This is funny

Papa fixed Fiery Flynn!!  He was broken a few very sad days

W in her very favorite summer dress.  First one picked after I do laundry.  next to purple flowers

Waiting patiently for food.  Portable fuzzy was not sufficient in this case so his sister went and got the real deal for him

Ian the clam
Really cute E pic

All those things are catepillars.  The catepillars were hard not to kill walking around at this park.  The entire rail was covered in them like a caterpillar highway

Why they were on top of this pole is beyond me

E eating a banana in the stroller at the ramp park watching them ride their bikes.  T almost smashed a caterpillar, but stopped fast so he wouldn't kill them

At the beach.  This is when it is lovely to live here

E climbed up on this log himself

No pics of T and Papa.
That is them way off in the distance.   J is bending over to retrieve a boat that floated farther than T wanted to wade out.  They did this for about 4 hours

Papa brought up some water for E to play in.  W and E made soup together

Hi my happy baby

E totally can crawl over these logs.  Proof

W found hermit crab shells and put them on sticks to decorate the log.  This one is about the size of my thumb
E looking too much like T at an older age and pleased with his climbing in the tree fort skills. He already likes to bounce on the branches

sleeping in our own beds

Back home again.  E is a surprisingly good traveler.  I had the least issues with that one.  Slept too much in the car so he didn't want to sleep as much at night, but was an amazingly good baby not crying even though there really wasn't anything for him to do on that long long trip.

When we went to pick up J from the airport, I heard W saying "when we see a papa that has two crutches, a knee brace and brown eyes, that is the one we will pick up"  They were only mildly disappointed about the lack of crutches.  All of us have done a victory dance about that for different reasons.  Mommy can leave E at home with J awake.  T can play wild with Papa.  J can get rid of his extra appendages.  E can have more papa snuggles.  W didn't have a comment, now that I think about it.

Now that we are home and found out that everyone can sleep through a screaming child in the same room except mommy, I made a boy and a girl room.  I think everyone is initially excited.  T couldn't wait to be sleeping with E.  E made the transition beautifully.  He just crawls to wherever fuzzy resides and he is good.  W has started decorating.  And making plans.

She wants yellow hearts, purple and pink polka dots painted on the walls, pink and purple ribbons, a variety of her own creations, and her small items stashed on her own bookshelf.  I went in there and found a purple star sticker already on her wall. I was planning on doing decorating stuff in the winter, you know, when I have to stay inside.  But she will probably begin decorating now.  Every day she has new decoration and arrangement of her things.  And more ideas

It amazes me how talents and dispositions transfer from one generation to another.  W definitely gets all of this from her Grandma.  Definitely not me.  I'm not really into all this stuff.  But it is fun to do it with W purely for watching her creativity come alive at such a young age.  Her drawings are showing more ingenuity.

She drew people with thinking bubbles above their heads.  One of them was W "thinking about her brothers T and E".  She drew a whole bunch of seashore pictures, complete with a sun each, sand, people with clothes on and various outfits (her with a flower dress and Papa with shorts on), and tons of different kinds of seashells in the sand.  Every also has the appropriate eye color.  (Mommy, I'm drawing your eyeballs blue).  She drew a picture of all of us while we were at church.  T and E have plaid church shirts at the moment, so she drew a "square shirt".  The thing is covered in squares.  I would never go to all the effort to draw a tiny square on the entire shirt, but she does.  She hasn't figured out how to draw long lines to make plaid, so she draws each square one, just like she draws each flower.

E continues to amaze me at how fast he is growing up. He thinks he is the same age as his siblings.  He absolutely loves slides.  He laughs going down each time.  He can also scale stairs no problem.  So at the park he scales the stairs and I hold his hand going down, although he is very steady and probably wouldn't have a problem going down himself.  His sister has offered to take him down the tall slides.  Maybe but Mommy has heart attacks thinking about it.

He laughs at T trying to be rough with him.  He thinks it is funny.  He laughs at funny noises and loves the book "Mr. Brown can moo, can you?".  He laughs really hard at it.

He has a sensitive palate.  He wants only real and good food and knows everything by site.  He can see if he isn't getting the same stuff as us and protests if his food is different than ours.  Sigh.  This morning he wouldn't eat beans because he could see a nectarine W was eating.  Thank heavens he finally got the sippy cup thing.  Now I don't mind giving him all this different food because he can take in the fluid he needs to counteract it.

T has finally discovered bike riding.  He now (finally) goes outside by himself just to ride his bike in the driveway.  Yeah!!!  He will go on a walk anywhere as long as he can ride Fiery Flynn.  Otherwise walks are dumb.

T continues to show how good he is mechanically.  I showed him how to push one lever forward and pull another back to keep dirt in a park scooper.  he got it!  It is hard for me to do, purely for pushing one forward when the thing makes you think you should pull back on both.

He melts my heart when he wants to snuggle mommy, gives E a hug just because, plays with E like squirting him in the tub with the toys, lifts my windshield wiper blades while "cleaning" my car.

This one is for Dad.  T said "Look!  He is learning to glug!" once E finally got the sippy cup thing down.

J got excited about the meteor shower that was announced in the news.  But it was cloudy, so he decided we should go over the mountains and watch it.  I think T and W had a great time overall.  They have incorporated it into their play.  W asked if I like looking at stars.  Absolutely.  We drove out into the desert where there is plenty of sky.  We laid out blankets on the ground and snuggled the kids (not E).  He was fast asleep in the car next to us in his car seat) and looked at stars.  I had let T and W take a nap in the car on the way there so T had no problem staying up until 11:30.  He was very good.  He stayed on the blanket and talked to us and played with us.  W fell asleep around 10, when the sky finally got mostly dark to see a bunch of stars come out.  A train also passed by us very close while we were waiting for meteors.  T was in heaven about that.

J was disappointed about the number, but I was so happy to feel warm dry air, see the sky and see so many stars like I haven't in forever and snuggle with my family.  We saw several small ones, which I'm sure the kids didn't see in time, and two big bright ones.  It was fun!

We were supposed to go camping, but J was still recovering from too much travel, so we stayed in a hotel..... with a pool!!  W loved it!.  T ok.  I tried having him practice his swimming.  He didn't want to.  That involves putting his ears in.  W doesn't like it either, but she eventually relaxed and put her face in the water.

E loves peaches, oranges and watermelon.  If he sees any on the table and we are not sharing with him, he throws all his food off his tray and cries for the good stuff.  He can easily eat an entire small peach and a small slice of watermelon. He can really pack it down already.  But not peas or beans from a can.  Just like T.

E likes to reach up with his hands and talk using gestures.  I have know idea what important thing he is saying, but it is really important to him.

The big kids are starting to like playing with E.  E thought it was soooo funny if he threw all his socks off the edge of his changing table.  The big kids were having fun throwing socks up on the changing table and he would toss them down and everyone would laugh.

E also thinks big kid "slugs" slithering down the hall under their blankets is funny, as well as them racing threw the hall.

E loves turning on the water in the tub and unplugging the drain to let the water out.  I don't like it too much.

E loves to watch T "whoosh" down the driveway on "fiery Flynn".  T drives really close, so E can't move, but he seems to do ok and laughs when he sees T do that.  T tells me to have "E watch Fiery Flynn"

E tried climbing the rhody bush.  Child loves to try his limits to the very edge.

And all E world problems are solved by sucking his fingers and snuggling fuzzy at the same time.

Oh yeah.  Another idea from W for her room.  She remembered that I had said we could paint her room once it was hers.  And she was ready to paint that day.  She spent lots of time collecting toys, beads, purses and anything she considers hers and putting it in her room.  She also rearranges things a bunch through out the day.  She woke up and said "I just can't stop thinking of ways to decorate my room!  I even thought of more when I was sleeping!"  Most of it involves pink, purple polka dots or bows and some yellow hearts or ribbons.

T was excited the first night E was there.  He woke up and told me how E was sad the night before because he didn't like his previous sleeping spot.  Now E is happy because his sleeping spot is in his room.  But E wore out his welcome the next two nights when T wasn't able to sleep through all the screaming.  I guess T is getting what he deserves with all that screaming in W's ears as a baby.

T and W were pretty helpful and even helped me move some furniture around and helped me re assemble the crib.  Very cute.

T will do pretty much anything for a meal bar.  He was pretty grumpy when we started our shopping trip, so I told him he couldn't have a meal bar unless he made good choices.  So he pulled the cart around the whole store without running into anyone or anything.  Then he reminded me that he did his part and needed a meal bar.  He was right.

I gave into temptation and bought a whole bunch of sun chips on sale.  I really like them at the moment.  I let T and W have some.  W ate some and said "Wow, Mom!  These chips are REALLY GOOD, for some reason".  I have to agree.

J took tons of pics in Thailand, but not ones I like.  These are the only easily deciphered pics of people.  Most of them were of scenery or the house or flowers or the river.  I'm more interested in the people and he must be trying to capture the feel of the place or something.  There are some pics of people but their faces are far away. And names??!!  that is asking a bit much but I think I have some of them down.
