Pagan Christmas

We woke up at Grandma's and first thing we did was jump in the spa.  Yep.  No worries about opening presents here.  The present was already opened, just getting to Grandma's!  My grandma and her husband were at morning Mass, so we stalled Christmas morning quite a bit.  It didn't seem to bother W, E, and T one bit.  They were very content playing in the spa with Grandpa and the fish, popping the bubble on Grandpa's shirt created from the jets and squirting water with the fish toys.

After the spa they were hungry for an awesome breakfast and we got down to business.  For a few minutes.  We got very distracted by the first gifts that we didn't get very much farther.

It's been fun being all together.  I was a bit grumpy about driving down, but now we are very much excited to be all together.  And I didn't realize that T and W are big enough to be excited to be with family, too.

On Sunday night I told them before going to bed that when they woke up that would be the day we drive to Grandma's.  I think next time I had better get a timer that will go off when it's time to go.  Here's what happened:

About midnight, after 4 long and restful hours of sleep, T woke up and was absolutely convinced it was the day to drive to Grandma's.  He started wandering the halls and then finally found the suitcases. I heard him say "I need to move these suitcases!"  I think he was ready to load the car.  We finally convinced him to go back to sleep in our bed.  So then, at 2 in the morning, W got out of bed, turned on her light, discovered T wasn't in his bed, and thought it was morning.  She came into our room and found me and started doing her morning "buggy, buggy" mommy snuggle as if she was getting up for the day and it was time for me to get up.  No.  I don't think so.  I told her to go back to bed.  She promptly went back, probably because I was using my mommy grumpy voice about being woken up again by a child that should be sleeping through the night.

One of the reasons for such excitement is eating meal bars in the car for breakfast. After they polished those off, T made the comment that maybe, when we got to Grandma's, that Grandpa would share his meal bars.

We also had a blast driving down.  The drive down we decided to do in two days.  One of the places we stopped at was a very random, going out of business type mall.  And lo and behold.  There was a railroad club that had set up an awesome real life miniature train that had most of the charactors of Thomas on the train.  Forget the tired Santa!  We totally bypassed him and went to the trains.  The guy even gave them a model train magazine! Score!  Waaaayy better than a candy cane.

We stopped in another town the next day for lunch.  There was an Asian BBQ sign out and lots of delicious smells coming from the cooker, so J stopped to order.  And lo and behold!  The owner was born in the same town as J!  They had a blast talking to each other.

The park we stopped at was in the sun, with blue skies.  We were in seventh heaven.  And then!  There was an engine and 3 cars parked on the tracks next to us.  Fabulous!  We had a great time looking at the train and standing in the sun.

After the park we had to go potty.  Well, W had to go potty again.  So we went into an old building.  When we walked in, the lady was so happy to see small kids walk in.  Apparently a lady born and raised in the town had knitted hats for kids to give out in town.  She was 102 years old.  We didn't meet her, but met the person running the info desk who offered them to our kids.  We had a great time learning about the town.  It ended up being a really fun stop.

We have some awesome one liners from Christmas.  T was trying to get his truck out of the box and got a little excited and started running with them.  J said " good thing you have some nice soft scissors to land on in case you fall"

This past month I was spelling out SANTA referring to a few things.  J had a great time smiling every time I would spell it out, then say, Satan?  Hmph.  The N is in the wrong place but maybe it distracts us more than we would like to admit...

We spent the rest of the day, though, enjoying being with Grandma, Hoppy, Grandpa, Grandma Kim, Uncle Ryan, J, me, W, E, T and hammock.  The sun was fabulous and so was the food!
just before I woke them up Christmas eve morning.  This reminds me of them being inside of me.  T taking up all the room and probably kicking and W scrunched over but not too bothered by him

On the Oregon/California border.  Hello sun, bye bye fog

Not much snow on Shasta, the head of Sacramento River....

The first week of the year

J drove like a maniac to get me back home to my bed.  I just wanted to get home and take care of sick kids in my own house.  So he drove straight through for me.  And I was glad to get back.  W still threw up on the way home and e got me after church today, but all food stayed down on Sunday!

T said in his prayer, thank you we can live at grandma's.  So he had fun.  It was in the same prayer of thanking for plates, counters, mommy and a warm house.

They are learning to sound out letters they see in print and write a few letters.  T is a really easy letter to write and he almost has a phonetic name.  He practices writing his name.  It looks like this. T with a lot of o's, m's and w's following it.  It is interesting to me that all his letters have spaces between them.  When I was a kid and I saw lots of cursive, I ran them all together in squiggles.  Not him.  He pointed out one of his words to me and said: " that says Jeremy, Mom."

I got my brother's Christmas gift to me this year.  I think kylee helped out some.  It is my 2010 blog printed out.  I love it!!!!  I haven't printed them out yet because I got too frustrated trying to find a site that would print out what I wrote.  But I got it.  I was looking at it and realizing how much I don't blog about e but just enjoy him.  But he might feel a little left out when he's bigger.

E has gotten some of his voice.  He loves to talk and sing and exclaim in a loud deep voice.  He is generally very cheerful and happy and loves to watch his siblings the best.  He also plays with their toys like they do.  He loves big trucks.  Today at Chruch he started crushing along the bench while smiling a storm at the retired couples behind us.  Go E!  Find us an adopted set of grandparents!  We need them!

My sister decided to visit for the big kids bday.  They were very excited to go to the airport to get her.  T said he could see her plane as soon as we pulled into the airport.  W comments that aunt b was excited to see them.

E is having a blast with aunt b.  any time I put him down to play, she scoops him up.  H
Oves it!  He has a really cute growl, laugh response to her playing with him.  He is also starting to practice pull to stand.

Each day w askes if tomorrow will be spring time.  She really wants wqterrmelon for some
reason.. I keep telling her that it isn't spring time.  Tonight after I told her that it would be winter for another's six months, she made the comment that "it is always winter here".  Pretty much.

E is getting really good at standing with double hand support.  He refuses to practice crawling.  He really loves standing at his toy table thing.  I keep telling him he would like crawling, but he doesn't believe me.  Maybe because no one else around here is crawling.

I really get tired of explaining things over and over.  Sometimes I ask them what they think the answer is.  One thing I'm tired of responding to is "I'm cold Mom!"  I usually ask T "what can you do if you are cold?" and he usually answers "get a sweatshirt".  Today I got another answer.  "I don't know.  (pause) sit on a heater vent?"

I left my sister with T for a run to Costco to get the debit card I left there.  W was very concerned.  I told my sister she could use the water colors with him.  W heard this and left specific instructions for my sister to make sure she watched to make sure t did not mix the colors of her paint palate.  My grandpa (papa) got a kick out of that.  I showed him the difference between w and t's palate.  All the reservoirs on t's are uniformly brown.  W's are perfectly preserved.  T only really likes to change the water in the water itself anyway.  And he is very good at pouring and scooping so I let him have more free rein in the kitchen.

The last day they were three, T worked really, really hard. He helped me move all the logs out of the way when I cut the big branches from the back yard.  Then he lifted them all on one end to get them into the green waste bin.  Some of the logs were 8 inches across and 4 feet long.  He worked really hard to drag them around.

Then he went inside and decided to cut his own fingernails.  He was very proud of himself to cut off 4 clips of "the white parts, not the pink".  After that he decided to help make the bread by using the wheat grinder to grind 2 cups of flour.  This took about a half an hour to do.  In between working on grinding wheat, he needed mommy hugs.  Of course I obliged.

We also went on a walk to the long walk beach.  It was a perfect day to use the umbrellas and boots.  We got a little wet and cold, but everyone seemed to enjoy it, including E who laughed and shrieked in delight at being behind aunt B under an umbrella.

We finished it off with a boat ride in a box with E at the helm.  He keeps insisting on standing.  He rocks back and forth on his knees, cries lots and then finally gives up, rolls over and sucks his fingers.  But it hasn't all been bad.  He has tried avocado, banana and little tastes of soy.  He likes all the sweet stuff, not a huge fan of the green stuff yet.  Still a huge fan of mommy milk.

With Grandma in the Attic's gift

The flowers and purple polka dot balloons "just for me!"

It's a little hard to see, but the bears are holding bouquets of real gerber daisies.  Really really cute Grandma!

Tucker with his gift, Boris the bear

My cheerful, no reason bouquet from grandma.  Just in time to remind me spring is on it's way!

E when he first started pulling to stand.  New toys were the definite motivation

Boris making friends with Meow Meow.  No worries.  Meow Meow was not replaced.  E likes Boris

Aunt B and T matching in their grey hoodies

Bubble hats in an aunt B depth bath

E rosy cheeked due to just awaking from nap

E being cute during present unwrappings.  The block is better

W with the tissue flowers her and aunt B made

E with big sister's stuff  Check out his rolls!  We love him

This is the train stencil I made for Tucker, but W is the one that drew this face on it.  I put a whole bunch of these coupled up along his wall saying Happy Bday Tucker.  Whitney had flowers

A week later W tried to recreate her gift.  She tied meow to the balloons and wrapped meow meow up in the blanket, putting her in the same box

So tucker did the same.  T told me that the beaver brushing his teeth on his pj's is a girl one because it has an earring.  The pom pom on the hat does hit right below the ear..

W painstakingly made perfect cupcakes by hand placing each individual sprinkle in the right spot on six cup cakes.  One of the finished ones is on the right hand corner.  I kid you not, she did all of these completely on her own

T using his skills to single handedly pour in the batter in the cupcake cups

W still working her cupcakes

T waiting for his sister to be done already.  shoot.  He decorated four already AND put the candles in

T was laughing so hard to blow out the last candle it took several attempts not to laugh to blow that one out.

W still working even after the candles were blown out

Still working on the masterpieces

sign says birthday girl alias bicho (bug in Spanish)

Bday boy alias heavy pinecone.  Still don't get it. When I ask them it is because he heavier

The most important gift.  A sticker book that has ALL the Thomas charactors and most of their names
